Price Comparisons

Price comparison is a crucial tool that enables consumers to make informed purchasing decisions by evaluating costs across different sellers. It helps consumers find the best deals, ensuring they get value for their money while promoting fair competition in the market.

The Consumer Affairs Department does not control retail prices within the Federation. However, businesses must adhere to government-regulated markups on Food Basket items; which are 20% on dry goods and 25% on frozen goods, based on total landed costs. While prices can be lower than the markup limits, they should not exceed them.

Importance of Price Comparisons

1. Cost Savings

One of the most significant benefits of price comparisons is cost savings. By researching and comparing prices from multiple retailers, consumers can identify the most affordable options, avoiding overpayment for the same product or service.

2. Transparency in Pricing

Price comparisons ensure pricing transparency, allowing customers to understand pricing trends, seasonal variations, and potential hidden charges. It also discourages businesses from inflating prices unethically.

3. Encouraging Healthy Competition

Competition among retailers benefits consumers. When companies compete for customers, they often offer discounts, better deals, and improved services, leading to a fairer market environment.
